CBTNuggets – Real-World VLAN Design and Implementation

In this intermediate networking skills training, Jeremy Cioara prepares learners to design and implement virtual local area networks (VLANs)

You’ll find VLANs in IT certification exams across vendors — Cisco, Juniper, AWS, and VMware. They also play a starring role in the entry-level CompTIA exams. There’s a reason for that. VLANs are foundational to networking, and you’ll likely encounter a VLAN before you even start studying for your first exam. That’s what makes this real-world training so valuable. Jeremy sits down and walks you through how to design and implement VLAN in a practical way
After finishing the videos in this VLAN training, you’ll know how to name and number your VLANs, create VLAN documentation, determine the subnet size of your VLANs, and prepare an outage notification.

For anyone who manages network infrastructure training, this networking training can be used to onboard new network administrators, curated into individual or team training plans, or as a networking reference resource.

VLAN Design and Implementation: What You Need to Know
For any network administrator looking to improve their proficiency with network infrastructure, this networking course covers topics such as

Choosing when to deploy VLANs to fill a networking need
Designing VLANs with people, technology, size and addressing that fit the need
Cleaning existing switch configurations
Implementing and configuring planned VLAN designs
Debugging and diagnosing network traffic
Implementing WAP, switch and router changes

Who Should Take VLAN Design and Implementation Training?
This VLAN Design and Implementation training is real-world networking training, which means it was designed for new IT professionals, but even experienced IT professionals can benefit from seeing how an expert does it.

New or aspiring network administrators. If you’re a brand new network administrator, the world of network administration is open to you. What that entails is many, many opportunities to learn different technologies, processes, providers, and even modes of the data link. This training can help you to master building networks that are as fast, as secure and as reliable as though they were all on the same wire, but actually located on many different LAN segments.

Experienced network administrators. If you’ve spent much of your career in network administration working on physical connections in networks, the dynamic power and flexibility of virtual LANs may be foreign to you. If that’s the case, this training can help you master the logical, rather than physical, connections that form and configure VLANs. Whether you need to freshen up on old skills or learn ones you haven’t had the chance to use in your career yet, familiarity with VLANs can help any network and its administrators.
